Patient Information and Policies
-
Mermaid Beach Dermatology is a privately billed clinic.
Medicare rebates may be available for eligible consultations when you have a valid referral.
We accept eligible DVA and Defence patients.
Fees vary depending on the type of consultation, procedure, treatment or service required.
Please contact the clinic if you would like to confirm the expected fee for your appointment before attending.
Any Medicare rebate applicable to your appointment will depend on your individual eligibility and referral status.
-
A referral may be required if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate for a specialist dermatology consultation.
Referrals must be current and valid at the time of your appointment.
Referrals from a GP are valid for 12 months from the date of your first appointment, while referrals from a specialist are valid for 3 months from the date of your first appointment. Please note that these timeframes begin from the date your referral is first used, not the date it was issued.
If you are unsure whether your referral is valid, please contact the clinic before your appointment.
-
We ask that patients provide at least 24 hours’ notice if they need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a $100 cancellation fee.
The cancellation fee may also apply to appointments that are missed without notice.
If exceptional circumstances prevent you from attending, please contact the clinic as soon as possible.
-
Please arrive on time for your appointment so that your consultation can proceed as scheduled.
Bring any relevant referral, medication list, previous pathology results, imaging, photographs or other medical information that may assist your dermatologist.
If your concern has changed significantly since booking, please let the clinic know so we can ensure the appropriate appointment type has been allocated.
-
Some procedures or treatments may require a separate appointment following your initial consultation.
Treatment suitability, expected results, downtime, risks and costs will be discussed with you before proceeding.
Not every treatment is appropriate for every patient, and recommendations will depend on individual clinical assessment.
