Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)
Hyperhidrosis is a common medical condition that causes excessive sweating beyond what is needed to regulate body temperature. While sweating is a normal response to heat and exercise, people with hyperhidrosis sweat excessively even in cool environments or while at rest.
Excessive sweating can significantly affect confidence, relationships, work, sport and everyday activities. Many people feel embarrassed by visible sweat marks, frequently changing clothes or avoiding social situations.
At Mermaid Beach Dermatology, our Specialist Dermatologists provide comprehensive assessment and evidence-based treatments to help reduce excessive sweating and improve quality of life.
Patients with severe primary underarm hyperhidrosis (axillary hyperhidrosis) may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for treatment with botulinum toxin (Botox®) when they meet the Medicare criteria.
This treatment can significantly reduce excessive sweating for several months at a time and may be repeated when the effects wear off. During your consultation, your Specialist Dermatologist will determine whether you are eligible and discuss the expected benefits, costs and treatment plan.
